In-Depth Information
(Carrión 271; pizzas S21-30; 6pm-late) This popular but dimly lit hangout on the
Plaza de Armas serves pasta and amply sized, wood-fired pizzas − the best in town.
Drinking & entertainment
The city's nightlife, while nothing beside Lima or Cuzco, is some of the Amazon's liveli-
est. Discos mostly just have recorded music, but bars and clubs pound away until the early
hours of a weekend.
Discoteca Witite
Offline map
(Velarde 153) Brightly painted Witite has stood the test of time. The crowd is mixed and
at weekends the partying here goes on all night.
CLUB
Tsaica
Offline map
(Loreto 327; Tue-Sat) Lively, and with funky indigenous art on the walls.
BAR
Gecko's
Offline map
(Cuzco cuadra 2 s/n) Garishly decorated bar with a pool table and bizarre cocktails with
jungle plants; next door the ambient restaurant El Tambo dishes up wholesome daytime
meals for around S6.
BAR
La Bolsa
( to 2am Thu-Sat) Vast place renowned as a peña (bar or club featuring live folkloric
music) with tables fanning out along the Río Tambopata. If you want a view while you
drink, come here.
LIVE MUSIC
Shopping
Proximity to local tribes means many of the lodges around town, such as Posadas Amazo-
nas on the Río Tambopata, are better for purchasing local handicrafts than the town itself.
