This well-regarded Peruvian boutique chain's latest offering is in a 21-room
colonial-style hacienda in a sublime location down in the Utcubamba valley surrounded
by
chiramoya
plantations off the dirt road to Leimebamba. Rooms are disappointingly
simple, but do feature thick mattresses and large bathrooms (avoid the traditional rooms -
you'll be happier in the far more spacious superior rooms) but perhaps that blow is eased
when you take your breakfast on the riverside veranda. This one is all about location, loc-
ation, location.

The courtyard in this classic mansion is a little more overgrown than endearing, but sleep-
ing here still offers exceptional value and scorching showers. Rooms are colorful and
crotchety in a sweet way, with the most expensive ones offering loads of space and laven-
der color schemes. The in-house agency can be pushy but travelers are generally pleased;
but confirm the price before setting out.

Only 1.5km from the main square, this
lovely colonial-style hotel furnished with lots of wood and antiques has the feel of a much
more expensive hotel. Large windows and balconies bring in the light. The three-bedroom
bungalows with kitchenettes are a great deal if you split it up per couple.
