( 94-369-5908; Lúcar y Torre 538; r per person S20) In the same building as Café
Andino (whose wi-fi you can use) and Mountain Bike Adventures, this charming family
guesthouse has cheery rooms and is decorated throughout with homey, frilly touches.
What's more, the owners are friendly and helpful enough to cure the worst bout of home-
sickness. Bathrooms and hot showers are shared and there's a top-floor communal area
with a small kitchen.
If you can snag the top floor single, you'll be dazzled by the views.

full board S290, bungalows with full board S360-420; ) In a stupendous mountainous
location between the Cojup and Quilcayhuanca valleys 15km from Huaraz, the Way Inn
Lodge's rooms range from bunks in one of their Flintstone-esque 'cave' rooms to deluxe,
well-appointed bungalows with fireplaces. It has evolved into a spiritual retreat center and
now concentrates on 10-day ayahuasca (hallucinogenic drink) retreats (S1400 deposit
plus donation).
It only accepts regular guests during five-day breaks between retreats. Both Chinese
medicine and Ayurveda specialists are also on hand and it is working towards becoming
self-sufficient with a permaculture food forest. As far as ayahuasca retreats go, file it un-
der extremely serious and very comfortable.

grassy area mark this informal and slightly chaotic place run by a mumbling Englishman
named Jo. Popular with trekkers and climbers (camping is allowed and there's plenty of
room to dry out your gear), it has four floors linked by spindly staircases that lead to a
warren of basic rooms, only some with bathrooms (but with hot water).
Jo provides UK newspapers and full English breakfasts as well.
