This flashy, contempor-
ary and bright two-story restaurant is a luxury
pollería
(restaurant specializing in roast
chicken) but color us as unimpressed with the main attraction as the walls are orange.
Still, people flock here, especially families for the giant children's playground. A Sunday
all-you-can-eat lunch buffet runs S27.

SELF-CATERING
HUAQUEROS
The word
huaquero
is heard frequently on the north coast of Peru and literally means 'robber of
huacas
.'
Huacas
are pyramids, temples, shrines and burial sites of archaeological significance.
Since the Spanish conquest,
huaqueros
have worked the ancient graves of Peru, selling valuables to anybody
prepared to pay. To a certain extent, one can sympathize with a poor
campesino
(peasant) hoping to strike it rich,
but the
huaquero
is one of the archaeologist's greatest enemies. The
huaqueros'
efforts have been so thorough
that archaeologists rarely find an unplundered grave.

An actual living, breathing bar in
Chiclayo, this rock-themed spot is run by a local who returned from San Francisco after a
decade. Good cocktails as well as live music (acoustic on Thursday, rock on Friday and
