(Balta 512; mains S13-25; 7am-1am; ) This popular place serves a bunch of differ-
ent dishes, all of them local favorites. If you're feeling brave, try the chirimpico for break-
fast: it's stewed goat tripe and organs and is guaranteed to either cure a hangover or give
you one. If not, the humitas (steamed dough with corn and cheese wrapped in corn husks)
are a tasty, can't beat treat at S3.50 and there's an extensive egg menu.
For other meals, there's pasta, steaks, seafood, chicken or pork chicharrones (breaded
and fried) with yucca - you name it.

(Balta 413; pizzas S12-31; 6-11pm) It's not how Papa Giuseppe used to make it, but
the wood-fired pizzas at this restaurant have a pretty darn good crust and fresh toppings.
They have convenient personal-size pizzas for solo diners.

(Aguirre 662; burgers S1-6) Lines run very deep at this no-frills Peruvian haunt, whose
burger stand draws legions of céntimo pushers for burgers (loaded with fries!) that are
practically free if you take them away (S1 to S4). Inside, they're pricier (S2 to S6), along
with a long list of country staples served by smiling staff.
They do an S3 suspiro de limeña (milk caramel and meringue) that's just big enough
that you don't feel guilty.

S3-7) If you're jonesin' for something other than industrialized ice cream, they do a de-
cent job here with the homemade stuff, especially considering all the Italians went to
Brazil and Argentina. Good flavors include pisco sour and lucuma; there are milkshakes
and snacks as well.
