relic, formerly the Gran Hotel Chiclayo. A 100% makeover was under way during our
visit (expected completion 2014). Presume superswankiness (for Chiclayo) across the
board, including room service, spa, cappuccino bar, casino, fitness center, free parking and
the namesake Plaza sports bar, all churned out in the company's tasteful modern decor.

These quarters on a
rambunctious commercial street are dressed with stylish '80s pizzazz. With dazzling col-
ors, an attentive doorman and a willingness to knock S30 off the price if you're staying
any length of time, it's a great option all-round, though street noise is an issue (try to go
for something in the middle of the building).
Whether it may have once been a love motel remains debatable, but, for the record, our
reception-advertised adult channels did
not
work.

Part of a northern Peru chain, this fully loaded business hotel is one of Chiclayo's
best, though reviews have been mixed. It must now answer to a higher multinational
power in the form of Ramada, who took the reins in 2012. All the creature comforts are
here, including pool, gym, sauna and massage rooms.
We aren't chain hotel fans, mind you, but this is Chiclayo.

This
appealing pick has lots of polished wood and wrought iron creating an illusion of
grandeur. The rooms are small, comfortable and cool. All feature wood paneling, as well
as tasteful bits of art and a TV. A great choice, it sits on one of Chiclayo's most charming
brick-lined streets.
