( www.picassocafelounge.com ; Bolívar 762) This shotgun-style cafe and bar approaches
Trujillo's trendiness tipping point and is a great place to check out some contemporary
local art. Exhibitions change every two months. When the bartender is on (Thursday to
Saturday from 8pm), there's a well-rounded cocktail list with some creative pisco concoc-
tions.

( San Martín 791; admission S20; from 11pm Thu-Sat) Although this place serves
good Peruvian coastal food, late Thursday to Saturday is the time to go. Local musicians

Dangers & Annoyances
Single women tend to receive a lot of attention from males in Trujillo - to exasperating,
even harassing, levels. If untoward advances are made, firmly state that you aren't interes-
ted. Inventing a boyfriend or husband sometimes helps get the message across. See Click
here f or more advice for women travelers.
Like many other cities, the noise pollution levels in Trujillo are high. Civic groups have
attempted to protest the constant bleating of taxi horns.
Emergency
Policía de Turismo (Tourist Police, Poltur; 29-1770; Independencia 572) Shockingly
helpful. Tourist police wear white shirts around town and some deputies speak English,
Italian and/or French.
Immigration
Oficina de Migraciónes ( 28-2217; www.digemin.gob.pe ; Larco, cuadra 12;
8am-4:15pm Mon-Fri, 9am-1pm Sat) Handles visas for foreign residents and tourist visa
extensions.
