Endegena Motel $
( 0221-170016; Gewane; d with/without bath Birr40/30, ) If you play loose with the
definition, you can call this vast bucket-shower place clean. It's next to the Kobil petrol
station. Check in at the green and yellow restaurant.
HOTEL

rooms in the green and yellow sections have fans; rooms in the blue section don't. It's in
Upper Mille across from the tall brown minaret.
HOTEL
Nazret Hotel $
( 0332-500222; Logiya; r without bathroom Birr70-250; ) The rooms at this
well-managed place are in three compounds. The one next to the restaurant is the newest
and has some air-con rooms, but even these share a bathroom. Nazret serves good food
(Birr20 to Birr100) too, though there's no menu. The new, two-storey Nazret #2, prom-
ising self-contained, air-conditioned rooms for Birr300, was under construction on the
Mille end of town.
HOTEL
Erta-Ale Motel $$$
( 0912-213532; Semera; s/d US$42/54; ) The rooms are ordinary and with these
prices (local prices are less outlandish, but still too high) it's not surprising that it's usually
empty.

Getting There & Away
This is not the road less travelled: countless Ethiopian trucks ply this route to and from
Djibouti, and because it is such an important corridor the road is in excellent condition.
It's possible to hitch a lift with one of these trucks; however, the drivers ask high prices.
Public transport is more frequent than it used to be and though you'll need to travel in
stages it's usually possible to get from Awash to Asaita in a day. From Awash's bus station
one morning bus goes to Logiya (Birr127, six to seven hours) while most minibuses to
Gewane (Birr53, 3½ hours) leave from in front of rather than inside the station. Minibuses
from Gewane to Logiya (Birr110, three hours) are infrequent; they drive the main road
looking for passengers.
