Moyale
POP 32,900 / ELEV 1090M
There's only one truly compelling reason to visit Moyale: Kenya.
A porous border cuts the one-street town in two and the difference between the sides is
immediately palpable. The Kenyan half, with dust-swept dirt streets, exudes a true wild-
frontier atmosphere while the Ethiopian side is more of a proper town with better
everything, except banking facilities.

Tourist Hotel $
( 0464-440513; s/d without bathroom Birr60/70; ) Sheltered behind its cool Rasta-
inspired bar, this little sleeping option has colourful rooms that include private showers.
While we've seen better shared toilets, we've certainly seen much worse.

Fekadu Hotel $
( 0464-440049; d/tw Birr100/150; ) Simple and somewhat overpriced self-con-
tained rooms set around an excellent courtyard restaurant and a decent bar.

Al-Yusra Hotel $$
( 0722-257028; r from KSh2500) The tallest building in Moyale is its only good hotel.
It's hardly fantastic, but it does have running water that's sometimes even hot, and no
strange creatures sharing your bed.
