The analysis of endemicity allowed the authors to recognize several biogeo-
graphic provinces previously identified (Morrone 2001a): Western Patagonia,
Maule, Coquimbo, and Valdivian Forest. Szumik and Roig-Juñent (2005) found
that the analysis filling the empty grid cells gave better results. Because their ana-
lysis involved only species of Carabidae, they concluded that a more complete
analysis of the biota may allow one to recognize other areas.
