MAPUTO INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL
(MOZAMBIQUE)
This festival - held as much to celebrate the charms of Maputo, as to celebrate music it-
self - consists of a series of concerts by classical and contemporary musicians at various

The entire region is now settling in to enjoy the cool, dry weather. June is generally a
comfortable, uncrowded time to travel, although the sea along the southernmost
coast can be windy and choppy.
IBO ISLAND DAY (MOZAMBIQUE)
June 24th marks the feast of St John the Baptist, which is celebrated (more recently as
'Ibo Island Day') with great gusto on Ibo Island in Mozambique's Quirimbas Ar-
chipelago. Events include traditional music and dance, and dhow races.
July
Prime wildlife-watching season is just around the corner, with the weather continu-
ing to be cool and dry. Travel season is also entering full swing. Humpback whales
have reached Mozambican waters on their migration up from Antarctica.
LAKE MALAWI INTERNATIONAL YACHTING
MARATHON (MALAWI)
This five-day sailing extra- vaganza on Lake Malawi - claimed by promoters to be one of
the longest fresh- water sailing competitions in the world - covers about 500km, from
Mangochi in the south to Nkhata Bay in the north.
