In-Depth Information
St. Joseph's in Wangfujing
It's difficult to get accurate numbers on religious groups in society in Beijing. Those
Chinese people who do follow a faith may not always admit to it. Additionally, Chinese
often blend their religions or philosophies, taking a little from Buddhism, a dash from Tao-
ism, and a sprinkling of Daoism. Other than traditional Chinese religions, there is a sub-
stantial Islam community in Beijing. In fact, on the west of the city in Xicheng district, an
entire street, Niu Jie ( 牛街 ), is dedicated to the Muslim community, and includes the old-
est mosque in Beijing. For comprehensive information on Muslim services around town,
including restaurants and mosques, visit www.qingzhen114.com . Unfortunately, the site
doesn't have an English version, but it translates readably through Google Chrome.
