The Schoolhouse at Mutianyu is often on the itineraries of tourists headed to the nearby Great Wall,
but its Western-style food and service make it worthwhile for residents as well.
If you need to investigate educational options, you will most likely head to one of several
destinations—up to the middle of Haidian district if you're interested in university, or over
to Shunyi district and parts of Chaoyang if it's for international schools, including nurseries
right through to high school.
Universities
Most universities attended by expats are located around Zhongguancun and Wudaokou in
the city's northwest. If you already have a university in mind, by all means, start there.
However, if you're just up for a browse, start with the top two. First up is Peking University

). A good launching point is the East Gate of the university (Line 4). Stroll
around the grounds, sneak a look at some lectures, and try to inspect some of the uni-
versity's dormitories and apartments. Following Peking University, head for a similar visit
at its neighbor, Tsinghua University (
