deluge in the afternoon. The rain, as in Mexico, washes away bridges
and roads, and just yesterday I had to run 15 kilometres out of my way
when a bridge I was planning to cross proved to be a pile of debris
on the river bank. I've been reading how Hurricane Irene is wreaking
havoc on the east coast of the United States, especially in such places
as Manhattan and North Carolina, where I ran. I pray for those people
there who were so kind to me and hope they'll be okay.
Right now, the team comprises my brothers Bernie, Chris and
Tony, my niece Katie and the two Mexican cameramen ( Javier Trujillo,
the third, has left us), whose ability to speak the language here has
pulled us out of many a hole. It's good to have my brother Tony with
us. Just as Brooke, Dillon and Chris did when they turned up, Tony
has created a positive vibe. We run together, and he and I talk about
where I might live when I return to Australia, the beach, landscaping,
houses, and the fish and chips we are going to devour together. He
especially endeared himself to me when he arrived with ten blocks of
dark chocolate in his bag.
Brooke and Dillon have been in touch and will be able to get out of
