Manhattan, we stopped off for a coffee at Tom's Restaurant, which has
been featured in the TV show Seinfeld . At Central Park, I was greeted
by Sam Kille of the New York chapter of the Red Cross. He whisked me
off to stand before the cameras of the popular Fox morning TV show
Good Day New York. Afterwards, I caught up with another New York
fireman, Kevin White, and a fire brigade paramedic, Dave Kruysman,
who has lost a leg but doesn't let that stop him helping others. He runs
with an artificial leg in triathlons. I never cease to be knocked out by
the human spirit.
Then appeared a group of cyclists from one of my sponsors,
Champion Systems, who make all my running gear, and their leader
Scott Kaylin, who challenged me to a race around the park. I was
tempted but had a lot of media engagements still to meet, including
the live cross with Today .
One of the highlights of this wonderful and most satisfying day
was the reception in my honour at the Australian consulate on East
42nd Street hosted by Consul-General Phil Scanlan. They turned
on a fine party, and Phil introduced me to some Manhattan movers
