In-Depth Information
Do not canoe beyond Markton and into the Menominee Indian Reservation without
checking local regulations first.
The Oconto River flows through the area, but extended trips should really be tackled
only by advanced canoeists. As the rangers point out, “Many a canoe has been totaled on
these stretches.”
Camping
The campground at 362-acre (and walleye-rich)
Boulder Lake
is the Nicolet's largest and
most popular.
Boot Lake
is approximately half the size and also has nice lakeside sites. A hiking trail
leads across the highway to
Fanny Lake,
in tranquil, primitive Jones Spring Natural Area,
with 2,000 acres of semi-wild land (with pack-in sites).
Bagley Rapids,

else. It's primitive but great for rafting and canoeing as it's on the Oconto River.
