FOOD
Travelers adore Nightingale (1541 Egg Harbor Rd., 920/743-5593, dinner Mon.-Sat.,
$8-25), the interior of which really looks old-school (in a good way). It has top-notch food.
Sturgeon Bay's version of Cheers, where you can watch the Brewers game while you
eat, is probably The Neighborhood Pub & Grill (1407 Egg Harbor Rd., 920/743-7018,
lunch and dinner daily, from $7). It's busy but friendly.
My favorite low-key breakfast/lunch joint for many miles is the Steel Bridge Cafe (49 N.
Madison Ave., 920/743-8558, 7am-3pm Sat.-Thurs., 7am-8pm Fri., from $6.50). Try the
kielbasa and eggs.
136 Wine Bar and Restaurant (136 N. 3rd Ave., 920/746-1100, 11am-9pm Mon.-Sat.,
$8-30) is a new place that already has the community buzzing, and for good reason. The
seafood is worth a two-hour trip (I'd sacrifice a finger for the shrimp bisque). This bistro's
interiors will surprise you with some elegance.
West of the ship canal and a casually chic, energetic place, M Bluefront Café (86
W. Maple St., 920/743-9218, lunch and dinner daily except Monday, brunch Sun., $8-18)
defines eclectic. It is also my Sturgeon Bay eatery of choice when in need of something
cheery and fresh. It will definitely be recommended by locals. Nowhere else in town will

Phenomenal Northern Italian cuisine in a cozy but contemporary setting is right down-
town at Trattoria dal Santo (147 N. 3rd Ave., 920/743-6100, dalsantosrestaurant.com , 5-9
daily, $17-25). This wonderful place has been honing its cuisine for nearly two decades,
