In-Depth Information
Racine's Fourth of July celebration ( www.racine.org ) is the largest in the state, replete
with the longest parade in Wisconsin. (If you're very lucky, it'll be a year when 19th-cen-
tury mock clipper ships are prowling about.)
The granddaddy of all events is mid-July's Salmon-a-Rama ( www.salmon-o-
rama.com ) , during which more than 4,000 anglers from 25 states land about 18 tons of fish
and another 200,000 people crowd the lakefront for a huge blowout of a festival. It's the
largest freshwater fishing festival in the world.
RECREATION
Charter Fishing
Racine has one of the most productive charter operations on Lake Michigan; it also has the
largest marina on the Great Lakes. Six different species of salmon and trout cohabit near
three reefs lying outside the harbor. In July 2010, a man caught a Wisconsin-record—and
likely world-record—41.5-pound brown trout off Wind Point.
