Burlington
ThetownofBurlingtonsitsabout25mileswestofRacine.Foratownofonly8,900people,
it's sure got a bunch of liars. The home of the world-famous Burlington Liar's Club, it
hosts an annual yarn- and fib-spinning festival and also distributes a brochure about the
town's Tall Tales Trail. Burlington is the hometown of Dallas Cowboys' quarterback Tony
Romo. Also called Chocolate Town USA (a Nestlé plant is here), Burlington has many
streets named after candy bars and, of course, the Chocolate Experience Museum (113
E. Chestnut St., in the Chamber of Commerce office, 262/763-6044, 9am-5pm Mon.-Fri.,
10am-2pm Sat., free).
The Spinning Top Exploratory (533 Milwaukee Ave., 262/763-3946,
www.topmuseum.org , $5) has more than 1,500 examples of yo-yos, tops, and anything else
that revolves. With reservations only, you get a tour featuring videos, demonstrations, and
game-playing, as well as a look at prototype tops used in a feature film on the subject.
Forabite, B. J. Wentker's (230Milwaukee Ave.,262/767-1514,11am-2pmand5pm-9pm
Mon.-Thurs., 11am-2pm and 5pm-10pm Fri., 5pm-10pm Sat., $18-32) is a classic Wiscon-
sin tavern more than a century old and has retained (though refreshed) gorgeous interiors,
especially the floor mosaics. They serve awesome food.
ENTERTAINMENT AND EVENTS
On Memorial Day weekend, little Burlington whoops it up during ChocolateFest
( www.chocolatefest.com ) .
