from bobbing boats, this brightly coloured haunt has scorpionfish, snapper, live lobster,
lamb kleftiko, souvlakia and shrimp. Run by a charming Georgian family.

(mains €2) Deservedly popular for its spinach and apple pies, croissants, cheese flans
and, in the evening, slices of pizza. Get here at dawn for fresh pastries.
Information
Boats arrive at the centre of Emborios' harbour and most services and accommodation
are within easy walking distance. The free quarterly Halki Visitor is a good source of loc-
al information.
When we passed, the ATM at the information booth on the harbour - the island's only
source of withdrawal - was no longer working and due for replacement, so bring plenty
of spare cash.

Around Halki
In the next bay south, sandy Podamos Beach is a dreamy strip of pebbles lapped by tur-
quoise waves and goats nibbling at its grassy slopes. Just up from it, Podamos Beach
Taverna (mains €8; lunch & dinner) has a seafood-accented menu. Only 1km from Em-
borios in the direction of Horio, it has shallow water ideal for children. You'll find a ba-
