Sights
In the old quarter, a permanent photography exhibition of historic images was about to
open at time of research. Here, don't miss the small, austere Church of the Dodeka
Apostoli (1780) and Church of Agios Dimitrios (1850).
Venetian Castle CASTLE
(To Kastro) The clifftop Castle of St Andreas offers superb views of coast and town
from its ramparts. The renovated central area has intact cannons and a cafe ( 26840
31150; 11am-late) in the former French armoury. The ramparts are partially unfenced,
so mind the kids.
Beaches BEACHES
The central waterfront's Kryoneri Beach is sandy, with shallow waters, opposite the is-
land. A 15-minute walk over the castle hill leads to the 2km-long Valtos Beach , with
loungers (€4 to €6). Alternatively, 2km south of Parga, Lyhnos Beach is more relaxed,
with a small, shady campground and clear waters. There's a taverna and villa accommod-
ation on the steep, winding entry road.
Paragaea Olive Oil Museum MUSEUM
( 26840 32889; www.paragaea.gr ; Tzavella 19; €3.50; 10am-11pm) This fascinating old-
town museum opened in 2013, in Parga's erstwhile olive-oil factory, operational from
1929 until 1974. The wooden building, filled with original machinery and even docu-
ments found during renovations, attests to Parga's major pre-tourism industry. A guided
tour comes with the ticket. It covers the local industry, technology and what working
here was like. Finally, there's a scrumptious sampling of bread and local olive oils (some
with intriguing flavours such as lemon or orange). Buy more oils in the museum shop.

Parga Tour Train ( www.tour-train.parga.com ; waterfront) offers an edifying, child-friendly
two-hour diversion. Starting from the waterfront at 9.30am, this open-sided fun train

forested Watermill Museum . Here, kindly Vassilis Nakas explains the antiquated ma-
