Kavala shares Alexander the Great Airport, near Hrysoupoli (29km), with Xanthi. Ae-
gean Airlines ( 25210 29000; Erythrou Stavrou 1) offers three daily Athens flights (€60).
Island flights go via Athens or Thessaloniki.
BOAT
From the western port (near the bus station), summer hydrofoils (sometimes) serve
Limenas in Thasos. Buy tickets on board.
More dependable ferries serve Skala Prinou in Thasos, from the eastern waterfront.
From the bus station, it's a brisk 15-minute walk along the waterfront to get here. Ferries
to Lesvos and beyond are here too. A small building on the left sells tickets for Thasos;
tickets for the other islands are sold by Alkyon Travel Service ( Click here ) , Euro Kos-

BUS
Kavala bus station ( 25102 22294; www.ktelkavalas.gr ; cnr Filikis Eterias & Hrysostomou
Kavalas) serves Athens (€55, 8¾ hours, two daily), Xanthi (€5.40, one hour, half-hourly),
Keramoti (€4.20, one hour, hourly), Serres (€9.30, two hours, four daily), Alexandrou-
poli (€15, two hours, seven daily) and Thessaloniki (€15, 2¼ hours, 11 daily). The apo-
thiki (storeroom) stores luggage.
Getting Around
Airport taxis (€45) wait near the bus station.
