Litohoro and Plaka Litohorou also make an excellent base for seeing the monasteries
at Meteora. In August, enjoy the Festival Olympou ( www.festivalolympou.gr ) . It's held in
town and at nearby historic sites such as ancient Dion and the Castle of Platamonas, and
includes concerts, plays and other cultural happenings.

EOS MOUNTAIN CLIMBING
(Greek Alpine Club; 23520 84544; 9.30am-12.30pm & 6-8pm Mon-Sat Jun-Sep) Below the
public parking lot; EOS distributes pamphlets with general and Olympus hiking informa-
tion. Take Ithakisiou from the square; turn left after 100m. The EOS runs three mountain
refuges.
SEO MOUNTAIN CLIMBING
(Association of Greek Climbers; 23520 84200; 6-10pm) This place is informative and
runs an Olympus refuge. Walk down Ithakiou, turn left and then left again.
Sleeping
Litohoro village has atmospheric rustic digs, and the lengthy beaches around Plaka Lito-
horou have both full-serve campgrounds and a few excellent hotels.

) On Plaka Litohorou's seafront, this minimalist masterpiece consists of 49

enormous 'infinity pool' sloping towards the bluff overlooking the water - must be
among Greece's largest.
Cavo Olympo also has a refined restaurant and spa centre (with indoor heated pool).
It's 2.5km south of the train station on the coast road.
