its mojo after that, but competition from Valaoritou's upstarts has inspired a recent
comeback.
Rover LIVE MUSIC
MAP
( 2310 544 304; Salaminos 6, Ladadika) Rover is excellent for live music, especially rock
and blues. The high-beamed, wood-and-brick interior includes a well-lit corner stage and
a long upper balcony offering great views of the action, making it feel like an intimate
concert hall. But the depth of the interior means there are also upstairs nooks for quieter
conversation away from the packed front.
Cocktail Bar BAR
MAP
( 2310 524 242; Polytehneiou 17; 8.30pm-3.30am) Among Thessaloniki's most popular
new places, Cocktail Bar attracts the beautiful people. As Thessaloniki's only self-ser-
vice cocktail bar, the bartenders follow your precise instructions - or, just concoct deli-
cious recipes that will keep you ordering (despite the relatively high prices).
Sinatra BAR
MAP
( 2310 223 739; cnr Mitropoleos 20 & Komninon; 7am-4am) Espresso bar by day, wine
bar by night - the latest offering of budding bar-mogul Filippos Apostolidis has a sub-
stantial stock of Greek wines (85 and counting). A 30-something crowd predominates at
Sinatra; it plays jazzy numbers of which Frank himself would no doubt approve.
Kismet BAR
MAP
( 2310 548 490; Katouni 11, Ladadika; 10pm-4am) Set smack between Ladadika's res-
taurants, Kismet is a fine, though cramped spot for live bands, ranging from rock and pop
to Greece's most popular rembetika (Greek blues) acts.
Froyd's Cocktail Bar BAR
MAP
( 6942464672; Kalapothaki 3; 7pm-3am) Set in a quieter spot on little Kalapothaki, this
new place offers creative sweet cocktails and DJ parties on weekends.
