Athivoli CRETAN $
MAP
( 2310 508 509; www.athivoli.gr ; Katouni 15, Ladadika; mezedhes €5-8; lunch & dinner)
Look for the neon outline of Crete to find Ladadika's Cretan restaurant, which has good
traditional music playing in the background. The food's tasty, though portions are small,
and the all-important myzithropitakia (flaky cheese pies with sweet myzithra cheese)
aren't as sweet as purists might expect.
To Inglis GREEK $
(Irodotou 32; mains €6-10; 12pm-2am) Up in Ano Poli near Plateia Kallithea, this local
favourite has standard fare including good meatballs and fresh salads. The lahmacan ,
however, bears only a passing resemblance to the Turkish original. Come on Tuesdays or
Wednesdays for live rembetika .

( 2310 256 900; Svolou 46; mains €7-11; 9am-2am) East of Plateia Navarinou, this long-
established lunch spot and bar serves Continental pub grub accompanied by numerous
European beers.
Pizza Poselli PIZZA $
MAP
(Vilara 1; pizza slice €2.30; 12pm-4am) This busy shop set improbably in an ornate par-
lour under a ballroom chandelier does a roaring trade with the late-night Valaoritou bar
crowds, offering a variety of tasty thin-crust pizzas by the slice.
Punto.ES GREEK $$$
MAP
( 2310 532 503; Frangon 4; mains €9-15; 8am-2am Tue-Sun) On a warm summer's even-
ing, it's hard to beat the ambience here. Tables are set on a pebbled back courtyard,
tucked into a flowery section of Thessaloniki's long-forgotten western Byzantine walls.
Try the smoked salmon and bruschetta appetisers, and the pungent chicken with Chian
Mastello cheese. The atmosphere's completed by wafting jazz.
