Hotel Aegeon HOTEL $

rooms are simple and somewhat cramped, the Aegeon is a budget godsend by west-Eg-
natia standards, surrounded as it is by pricey chain hotels and sordid dens of iniquity. The
train station's a five- to 10-minute walk, and the popular Valaoritou bars are just behind
Egnatia opposite.

stylish boutique hotel, opened in summer 2013, occupies a grand heritage house with 12
uniquely decorated rooms. There's an eclectic combination of old and new, with modern
pop-art decor and vibrant tones, plus a traditional Thessaloniki music corner, and even
vending machines with various 'travel packs'. Enthusiastic owner Christina Drakopoulou
provides info on current local events.
Met Hotel LUXURY HOTEL $$$

) Nearer to the port and train stations, the Met is a posh, minimalist hotel with sleek
modern bathrooms, spa centre and outdoor pool, next to Thessaloniki's best rooftop bar.
Amenities include designer soaps, flat-screen TVs and some seriously comfortable mat-
tresses. Recent price cuts have made it more tempting, and it's relatively close to eating
and drinking hotspots, too.
