Finally, good-quality hostels, apartments and midrange hotels have arrived. In general,
rates rise during autumn convention season at HelExpo ( www.helexpo.gr ) and other fairs.
Little Big House HOSTEL $

clean and cosy new hostel, up in quiet Ano Poli, is an ideal base for taking a walking
tour. It's run by the uproarious Vicky and her brother, Haris. Between the self-catering
dorms and one private room, there are only 22 beds, so book ahead. Free coffee and tea
are available all day, and tasty tavernas exist nearby.
From the train station, take bus 23 to the Agios Pavlos stop. Another local landmark is
Plateia Kallithea, just below Andokidou.
Hostel Arabas HOSTEL $

find, with warm welcomes and a washing machine - here's hostelling as it used to be.
Brothers Kostas and Dimitris Pappas oversee this simple place on a sidestreet above Eg-
natia, with spartan dorms, and singles and doubles with private baths. There's a relaxing
front garden for coffee (and sometimes parties) plus free luggage storage. The hostel is a
15-minute walk northeast from the train station - see the website for the exact route.

party people, you finally have somewhere nice to crash. These 15 sparkling new apart-
ments rival more expensive hotel rooms, with cool lighting, minimalist decor and mod

pastry breakfast (€5 extra) is brought to your room, or you can eat in the first-floor recep-
