Museum of the Macedonian Struggle MUSEUM

Ground zero for Greek nationalism, this museum recounts how heroic Hellenes
wrested Macedonia from both Turks and Bulgarians. Housed in Greece's former Otto-
man consulate, the museum has hard-to-find maps, old firearms, photos, uniforms and
more.
Thessaloniki Museum of Photography MUSEUM

portside warehouse, this museum displays historic and contemporary Greek photography,
plus dynamic temporary exhibitions, with a waterfront cafe.
Atatürk's House HISTORIC BUILDING

( 2310 248 452; Apostolou Pavlou 75; 9am-5pm) In 1881, modern Turkey's illus-
trious founder, the dashing Mustafa Kemal was born here, in today's Turkish consulate
(bring your identity card or passport). Recently renovated, it's more popular than ever.
Along with numerous original furnishings and memorabilia, you'll see other Atatürk
paraphernalia such as dapper suits, white gloves and a cane. Sporting!
Eptapyrgion HISTORIC BUILDING
(Ano Poli) A prison from Ottoman times until 1989, the Eptapyrgion, or Yediküle in
Turkish (in both languages, 'Seven Towers'), is a grim reminder of Thessaloniki's penal
past, recounted in rembetika (old Greek blues) songs. Behind the Byzantine Walls.
Yeni Hamam HISTORIC BUILDING

(Aigli; cnr Kassandrou & Agiou Nikolaou) An atmospheric 17th-century structure, this former
Turkish bath has great acoustics, making it ideal for concerts - and it hosts contemporary
art exhibitions.
