side its labyrinthine interior.
Jewish Museum of Thessaloniki MUSEUM

Wed & Thu) This touching museum traces Thessaloniki's Jewish heritage from 140
BC to the 15th-century Sephardic immigrations, until the Holocaust. Remains from the
Nazi-vandalised Jewish cemetery are displayed.
Synagogues SYNAGOGUES
Monastirioton Synagogue MAP ( 2310 524 968; Syngrou 35) is Thessaloniki's only
surviving synagogue. However, services are held at the small Yad Lazikaron MAP (
2310 275 701; Vassiliou Irakliou 24) , on Mitropolios, in the former Jewish district.
Jewish Mansions HISTORIC BUILDINGS
Two east-side 19th-century mansions attest to the bygone wealth and prominence of
Thessaloniki's Jews: the Villa Allatini (Olgas 98) and Villa Mordoch (Olgas 162) . It's a
fifteen-minute trip by bus along Leoforos Vasillissis Olgas. Incidentally, Olgas (the street
on which both mansions are located) crosses Saadi Levi, named for the publisher of one
of Thessaloniki's 35 erstwhile Jewish newspapers.
National Bank of Greece HISTORIC BUILDING
(Tsimiski 11) This Neoclassical structure has considerable architectural grandeur.
Noesis Science Center & Technology Museum MUSEUM
( 2310 483 000; www.noesis.edu.gr ; 6th km Thessaloniki-Thermi Rd; adult/child €7/5;
10am-2.30pm Tue-Fri, 6-10pm Sat-Sun) Although 6km east of town, this fascinating museum
of science and technology, old and new, is worth visiting. There's a planetarium, a giant-
screen cinema and simulator for the kids, while the exhibition of ancient Greek techno-
logy shows just how ingenious the ancients really were. Out of summer, it opens at 1pm
on weekends.
City bus 66 goes directly to the Noesis stop, or you can take a taxi.
