In-Depth Information
( 22370 23506; www.snowreport.gr/karpenissi ) The Karpenisi ski centre on Mt Tymfristos
operates four lifts with five runs (not six lifts and 11 runs as often promoted) from
November to March. Karpenisi is also a mecca for hikers, rafters, mountain bikers and
rock climbers.
A couple of companies offer extreme sports from white-water rafting, snowboarding
and canyoning to rock climbing, river hiking and mountain biking. Unfortunately,
however, these are mainly for groups. Trekking Hellas ( 22370 25940; www.trekking.gr )
is your best bet for groups of around four people. Prices vary according to activity, and
include equipment and transport.
You can also hike the E4 trail between Karpenisi and Krikello.

Eating & Drinking
Surprisingly, there is a limited range of good-quality eating options in town itself, al-
though if you have your own wheels, it's fun to choose from one of many good tavernas
that are dotted between Karpenisi and Megalo Horio/Gavros.
Taverna En Elladi TAVERNA $
( 22370 22235; www.enelladi-tavern.gr ; Kotsidou 4; mains €6-12) This earns marks for its
handy location, just above the main square. The food is reasonable, too - hearty
homemade soups, along with oven-ready dishes such as veal En Elladi (veal with pota-
toes and cheese, €8).
