Pension Nikos HOTEL $

€25/35; ) This centrally located, '60s-style budget option has flaking shutters on the

Maison Grecque BOUTIQUE HOTEL $$$
( 2610 241 212; www.mghotels.gr ; 25 Martiou St 116; s/d/tr incl breakfast €65/85/135) As the
name might suggest, this smart, boutique spot has a touch of 'sleek Greek' pretension.
Each room is decked out uniquely (with an original ceiling fresco or two thrown in) -
think dark hues with metalic touches - and one or two of the rooms are slightly claus-
trophic. The rest, however, are sophisticated and smart.
It's in a handy location, a five-minute walk from the pedestrianised centre.
Hotel Marie Palace HOTEL $$$
( 2610 331 302; www.mariepalace.gr ; Gounari 6; s/d incl breakfast €40/60; ) The help-
ful, friendly staff here make up for any shortfalls in the simple but clean rooms, which
are popular with budget-minded business travellers. Rooms at the front have balconies,
but can be noisy at night.
Hotel Byzantino HOTEL $$$
( 2610 243 000; www.byzantino-hotel.gr ; Riga Fereou 106; s/d/tr incl breakfast €75/85/100;
) The Byzantino is a change from Patra's concrete monoliths. This graceful and re-
stored neoclassical building features reasonable rooms with fancy bedsteads, wooden
floors and period furniture.
Eating
To do frappé (Greek-style iced coffee) with the best of 'em, head along Agiou Nikolaou;
new trendy cafes also line the newly pedestrianised Riga Fereou (Michalakopoulou). For
good eating options head southeast to Trion Navarhon. Cheap student eateries are along
Gerokostopoulou.
