Lorne
POP 1000
Lorne has an incredible natural beauty, something you see vividly as you drive into town
from Aireys Inlet. Old, tall gumtrees line its hilly streets, and Loutit Bay gleams irresist-
ibly. It's this beauty that has attracted visitors for centuries - Rudyard Kipling's 1891 visit
led him to pen the poem 'Flowers': 'Gathered where the Erskine leaps/Down the road to
Lorneā€¦'
It gets busy; in summer you'll be competing with day-trippers for restaurant seats and
lattes, but, thronged by tourists or not, Lorne is a lovely place to hang out.
