Getting There & Away
AIR
Two airports serve Melbourne: Melbourne (MEL; 03-9297 1600; www.melbourneairport.com.au ) ,
also known as Tullamarine, and Avalon (AVV; 03-5227 9100, 1800 282 566;
www.avalonairport.com.au ) , located en route to Geelong. From Melbourne, domestic and inter-
national flights are offered by Qantas ( Click here ), Jetstar ( Click here ) , Virgin Australia
( Click here ) and Tiger Air ( Click here ) . Presently only Jetstar serves Avalon.
QantasLink ( 13 13 13; www.qantas.com.au ) and Regional Express ( 13 17 13;
www.regionalexpress.com.au ) fly from Melbourne to Mildura, while Sharp Airlines ( Click here )
has services from Melbourne to Portland, Hamilton and Flinders Island from smaller Essen-
don Airport (MEB; 03-9948 9300; www.essendonairport.com.au ) .
There is a left-luggage facility ( www.baggagestorage.com.au ; Ground Fl, International Terminal 2; $15 per 24hr;
5.30am-12.30am) in Terminal 2 at Melbourne Airport.
BOAT
Spirit of Tasmania ( 1800 634 906; www.spiritoftasmania.com.au ; adult/car one way from $174/89) crosses
Bass Strait from Melbourne to Devonport, Tasmania, at least nightly; there are also day
sailings during peak season. It takes 11 hours and departs from Station Pier, Port Mel-
bourne.
BUS
The following long-distance buses depart from Southern Cross Station

There's a left-luggage facility ( 03-9619 2588; during train service hours) at Southern Cross Sta-
tion. It costs $12 to store a backpack or suitcase for 24 hours.
TRAIN
Interstate trains arrive and depart from Southern Cross Station .
