In-Depth Information
Shuttle Bus to Downtown: Most cruise lines offer a shuttle bus that drops
you in downtown Stockholm, along the harborfront road next to the Opera
House, facing the Old Town/Gamla Stan—an easy walk or public bus/tram
ride to various points of interest. While the shuttle bus can be pricey (varies
by cruise line, but likely $15/€12 round-trip), it's very convenient and not a
badvalue inthisexpensive city, whereasingle one-wayticket onpublic trans-
it costs over $5. If you'd rather do it on your own, I've outlined the options
below.
Port Details: TI kiosks (with bus tickets, city guides, and maps) open at
both ports when ships arrive.
Stadsgården is a long embankment, with cruises arriving at two different
areas that flank the busy Viking Line Terminal (used by boats to Helsinki).
The nearest transportation hub (with bus and T-bana stops) is Slussen, which
sits beneath the bridge connecting the Old Town/Gamla Stan and the Sö-
dermalm neighborhood.
Closer to the city, berth 160 hunkers next to an old red-brick terminal
building; from here, it's an easy 10-minute walk to Slussen, and five minutes
farther to Gamla Stan.
Farther out (past the Viking Line Terminal), berths 165/167 are still a
walkable distance to town; figure about 25 minutes to Slussen, then five more
minutes to Gamla Stan (follow the blue line painted on the pavement to the
port gate, then walk with the water on your right, passing the Viking Line
Terminal and berth 160 en route). A faster option is the handy hop-on, hop-
off harbor boat tour, which departs right next to the cruise dock (follow the
red line painted on the pavement) and connects several worthwhile downtown
areas for a reasonable all-day price of 100 kr (€10 for cruise ship passengers
who pay in euros; for more details, see here ) . A taxi stand is next to the TI
kiosk just outside the port gate (figure 115 kr to the Old Town, 150 kr to City
Hall, or 190 kr to the Vasa Museum). Near the taxi stand is the departure point
for hop-on, hop-off tour buses (pricier than the boat; for details see here ) .
You can also take a public bus , but the bus stop sits inconveniently on a busy
road above the port: Passing the Viking Line Terminal and heading up the
ramp to the main road, make a sharp left turn and head up the busy street with
the port area on your left, until you reach the Londonviadukten bus stop (from
