Designtorget, a store dedicated to contemporary Swedish design, receives
a commission for selling the unique works of local designers (Mon-Fri
10:00-19:00, Sat 10:00-18:00, Sun 11:00-17:00, underneath Sergels

For more on Swedish design, pick up the Design Guide flier at the TI (list-
ing smaller stores throughout town with a flair for design). The trendy and
exclusive shops (including Orrefors and Kosta) line Biblioteksgatan just off
Stureplan.
Traditionally, stores are open weekdays 10:00-18:00, Saturdays until
17:00, and Sundays 11:00-16:00. Some of the bigger stores (such as NK,
H&M, and Åhléns) are open later on Saturdays and Sundays.
When Swedes want the latest fashions by local designers, they skip the
downtown malls and head for funky Södermalm. The main drag that leads
from Slussen up to this neighborhood, Götgatan, is a particularly good
choice, with shop after shop of Swedish (not international) designers. Local
boutiques along here include Weekday jeans, Filippa K, J.Lindeberg, Tiogrup-

For a smörgåsbord of Scanjunk, visit the Loppmarknaden, northern
Europe's biggest flea market, at the planned suburb of Skärholmen (free
entry weekdays and Sat-Sun after 15:00, 15 kr on weekends—when it's
busiest; open Mon-Fri 11:00-18:00, Sat 10:00-16:00, Sun 11:00-16:00; T-
bana: Varberg—on line #13—is just steps from the shopping action, tel. 08/

a Sunday flea market in summer (see here ) .
Stockholms Stadsmission's secondhand shop in Gamla Stan is a great
place to pick up an unusual gift and contribute to this worthwhile charity

Systembolaget is Sweden's state-run liquor store chain. A sample of each
bottle of wine or liquor sits in a display case. A card in front explains how
it tastes and suggests menu pairings. Look for the item number and order at
