Soave
From the reds of Valpolicella and on to the whites of Soave, a village and wine district
some 30km east. The Della Scala family expanded Soave's medieval Castello (

Oct-Mar) , a magnificent, soaring storybook ramble of crenellated walls, courtyards and a
central tower. It's a short, signed walk from the village centre through gardens and vine-
yards.
You can sample some of Soave's lemon-zesty DOC Classico across from the old-town
church at Azienda Agricola Coffele ( 045 768 00 07; www.coffele.it ; Via Roma 5, Soave; 9am-12.30pm &
2.30-6.30pm Mon-Sat & by appointment) , alongside the more nutty, and faintly bubbly DOCG Reci-
oto di Soave. The family also rents out rooms among their vineyards a few kilometres
from town.
