In-Depth Information
Despite the choice of eateries on offer, don't expect gastronomic thrills in Cilaos. Most
places tend to rest on their laurels, with rather stodgy fare served in generic surrounds. On
the bright side, Cilaos holds a few surprises up its sleeve. It's noted for its lentils, grown
mainly around Îlet à Cordes, and its wines.
Self-caterers will find grocery stores along the main street.

where they go for the best macatias (buns) and croissants and they point to this delectable
little bakery. It has a wide variety of cavity-inducing goodies, as well as excellent baguette
sandwiches.

( 0262 37 39 39; Rue du Père Boiteau; cakes €4; 3-6pm) This delightfully peaceful venue in the
hotel's tea room will torment the sweet-toothed and weak-willed with homemade cakes
and pies, including a gâteau banane (banana cake), and about 15 varieties of tea.
Chez Miko Fils

( 0262 31 70 52; 25 Rue du Père Boiteau; mains €8-18, menus €13-20; lunch & dinner Fri-Wed) Smack dab
in the centre, this informal joint is a good spot for a fast, affordable meal. Whatever you
choose you can't go wrong, though it does suffer slightly from being a jack-of-all-trades.
The streetside terrace allows for a dash of people-watching at lunchtime.
