With a noticeable lack of resorts, Poste de Flacq is a haven for upscale villa rentals that
work out to be a much better deal than many of the luxury hotel packages (especially if
you're travelling with friends and/or family). Contact CG Villas ( 262 5777; www.villas-
maurice.com ) to organise your stay - they manage a sizeable collection of beach houses in the
area.
Besides the case-like superettes dotting the coastal road, there's only one restaurant of
note in this area of the east coast. If you're staying at a villa and are interested in freshly
caught seafood, ask your villa operator to contact one of the local fishermen - they'll de-
liver whole fish and langoustes directly to your door.

( 410 5039; www.lamaisondete.com ; Poste Lafayette; r incl breakfast €135; ) La Maison d'Été
is ranked as one of Mauritius' top B&Bs on a certain trip-advising website, and we can
definitely understand why. The Franco-Mauritian owners have hit the nail on the head; an
effortless tropical charm pervades the collection of poolside rooms, each one decorated
with tasteful tributes to island life. The property also has an inviting restaurant,
Auberg'inn, two pools and its own private beach. They had plans to renovate not long
after we were there so it may be about to get even better.

up an enticing assortment of pasta, fish and 'fusion food' of the highest quality. The inn's
owner often moonlights as the chef and takes special care when preparing locally sourced
dishes matched with international wines. The menu is limited to pizza on Sunday even-
ings. Ring ahead for a reservation if you're not staying here. Highly recommended.
