( 625 6084; Village des Touristes, Port Souillac; mains Rs 600-1250; noon-3pm & 6-9pm) Drop down off
the main road at the western end of Souillac for a lovely waterside eating experience. The
food (the usual mix of Mauritian staples and seafood) is a touch overpriced, but it's still
worth it for the setting.
Getting There & Around
There are buses roughly every half-hour from Mahébourg to Souillac via the airport and
Rivière des Anguilles. From Port Louis, buses run hourly, calling at Rivière des Anguilles
en route. There are also frequent services to/from Curepipe, with three buses a day taking
the coast road via Pointe aux Roches. Buses heading along the coast to Baie du Cap depart
hourly.
Bel Ombre
Despite being miles from the bucket-and-spade atmosphere of Flic en Flac or Grand Baie,
Bel Ombre has quickly developed into a cosy tourist bubble along the wild southern
shores.

ADVENTURE
( 623 5522; www.domainedebelombre.mu ) The main attraction in Bel Ombre is the Domaine de
Bel Ombre, an open nature reserve set on the old sugar plantation, which was developed
by Charles Telfair between 1816 and 1833. Today it's a multifaceted venture with a brilli-
ant golf course, Integrated Resort Scheme (IRS) properties, ruins from a colonial mill and
the Valriche Nature Reserve - a haven for quad biking, hiking and touring on 4WDs.
Sleeping
The sumptuous Domaine de Bel Ombre also features two five-star hotels, Heritage Le Tel-
fair and Heritage Awali, both run by Verandah Resorts.
