ZOO
Parc Zoologic

(Str Ştefan cel Mare; adult/child 2/1 lei; 9am-8pm) Along Str Ştefan cel Mare, the tiny
zoo has a seasonal outdoor minizoo.
Mt Cozla & Telegondola
Cozla Park Offline map Google map is a sprawling, forested park at the base of the moun-
tain. To get to the top and Mt Cozla (639m) take the aerial route with the new Telegon-
dola Offline map Google map ( www.cozla.ro ; adult/child 18/10 lei; 8am-11pm) . Lift-off
is achieved at a space-age structure by the train station. From here, self-contained eight-
man gondolas run every few minutes, providing panoramic views of city, mountains and
lake.
Note that besides the ticket price you must leave a 20-lei deposit for the lift card, which
is refunded when you return down (only one deposit is required, regardless of group size).
A sign at the ticket booth warns that drunks aren't allowed and that the lift is free for pen-
sioners (it's unclear whether drunk pensioners just pay full price). In any case, being
drunk is not a bad idea considering that the gondola tends to thud into the mountaintop lift
area like a lost lunar probe.
Atop the mountain, one can breathe cool, crisp air, have an atmospheric drink or lunch,
and find (in winter) ski trails that double as hiking paths in summer; the adjoining wooded
sections host ferocious paintball contests.
Ştrand
Just southwest of the centre, the Ştrand is a relaxed open promenade where locals go for
an evening stroll; however, its other activities make it immensely popular throughout the
year.
During winter, an outdoor ice-skating rink (admission with own skates 10 lei, incl
skate rental 20 lei) operates, while in summer the fashionable Mountain Beach (admis-
sion 10 lei; 10am-7pm Jun-Sep) consists of carted-in sand surrounding two swimming
pools, and the obligatory 'beach bar'. It's a chic spot for the town's sunbathing young, and
provides a warm-up for evening activities at the on-site nightclub, Tequila Club ( Click
here ) , which operates as a cafe-bar by day. The complex can host up to 700 people.
