Within this
18th-century grand pile's powder-green exterior is an old-world landscape dripping in
glass chandeliers, monogrammed carpets, huge beds and gilt paint furniture. Could do
with a refurb in places but a stay here will be an atmospheric one.

Four-person
rooms and two doubles in a 14th-century building. Rooms are lovely with split levels,
wood rafters, terrific views and regal furnishings. It's dead central too.

Down the hill a few
minutes' from Piaţa Mare, this pleasant guesthouse has great-value rooms with flat-
screens, fridges, en suites, sofas and wi-fi. Staff are very friendly and there's a cosy res-
taurant and bar downstairs. Rooms are cheaper during the week.

In a 450-year-old building with three dorms and two private rooms (one with en
suite), Old Town has sublime square views. It also has decidedly plush touches including
parquet floors, fresh white walls, choice artwork, TV in dorms and considerately spaced
beds (the antithesis of battery-hen mentality). It's a nice vibe too, from the communal kit-
chen to the lounge.

It might not scream
'Transylvanian' but this slick high-riser complete with restaurant, cafe-bar and modern
rooms (not to mention the incredible views) may prove to be an oasis if your first choices
are full during festivals or at weekends. Surgically clean en suites with powerful showers,
fluffy cloudlike beds and cable TV. Wi-fi in rooms and oodles of parking.
