PRINCE CHARLES: TREE HUGGER
Not content with attempting to save Borneo's rainforests, Prince Charles is also campaigning to save
Transylvania's forests and Saxon architecture in villages such as Viscri and Biertan. Rapid economic growth in
Romania has placed the Carpathian Mountains under threat from logging, and the prince, only too aware of how
England's forests shrank to nothing during industrialisation, is keen to make his voice heard. A voice that ances-
trally is connected to Vlad The Impaler. He was heard to say: 'The genealogy shows I am descended from Vlad
the Impaler, so I do have a bit of a stake in the country'. The royal bought a five-bedroom 150-year-old house in
the village of Zalanpatak, while his first house was purchased in Viscri in 2006.
