TOURRETTES-SUR-LOUP

Dubbed the 'city of violets' after its signature flower, Tourrettes is a postcard-perfect,
15th-century hilltop village. Walking around the medieval village won't take you more
than half an hour or so; other attractions are in the surrounding area.
Sights & Activities
There are some great walks to do around Tourrettes, many with panoramic views. Prom-
enades & Randonnées Balisées (in French) is a useful leaflet produced by the tourist of-
fice ( 04 93 24 18 93; www.tourrettessurloup.com ; 2 place de La Libération;
9.30am-12.30pm & 2.30-6.30pm Mon-Sat) , with 14 itineraries ranging from easy 1½-hour
strolls to heartier walks to local summits or neighbouring villages. Also good is Guides
RandOxygène ( Click here ) , with a great selection of itineraries in the Pays Vençois sec-
tion.
La Ferme des Courmettes
FARM

9am-12.30pm & 4-6pm) An organic goat's cheese producer, Les Courmettes welcomes
visitors. If you'd like to see the goats being milked, come around 4.30pm between March
and October. To organise a tasting and a tour of the farm (one hour, €56 for up to 10
people, available in English), book ahead. The cheeses are absolutely divine and incred-
ibly diverse in taste.
Find the farm 4km up rte des Courmettes, signposted off the D2210, about halfway
between Tourrettes and Pont du Loup.
Bastide aux Violettes
(Quartier de la Ferrage; 10am-12.30pm & 1.30- 5pm Tue-Sat) To find out more about
Tourettes' famous violet, head to the Bastide aux Violettes, 10 minutes' walk from the
centre of Tourrettes. This modern space takes you through the history of the flower, its
uses and cultivation (you can see fields).
