€5.20) before trying out one of Nice's fabulous restaurants, Les Distilleries is one of the
most atmospheric bars in town. Tables on the small street terrace are ideal for watching
the world go by. Happy hour is from 6pm to 8pm.
Le Smarties
(
http://nicesmarties.free.fr
;
10 rue Défly; 6pm-2am Tue-Sat)
We love Smarties' sexy
'70s swirly orange style, which draws a hot-looking straight-gay crowd. On weekends the
tiny dance floor fills when DJs spin deep house, electro, techno and occasionally disco;
weekdays are mellower. Free tapas with happy hour (nightly 6pm to 9pm).
BAR
L'Abat-Jour
(25 rue Benoît Bunico)
With its vintage furniture, rotating art exhibitions and alternative
music, l'Abat-Jour is all the rage with Nice's young and trendy crowd. The basement has
live music or DJ sessions.
BAR
La Civette du Cours
(1 cours Saleya; 8am-1am)
Sprawling across cours Saleya, La Civette is
the
place to
hang out if you're cool, regardless of age. Dark shades nurse a hangover with a cap-
puccino in the morning sun, locals kick back with a pre-lunch pastis at weekends and
friends come here in the evenings for a kir or a beer.
CAFE
Snug & Cellar
(cnr rue Droite & rue Rossetti; noon-midnight)
The cellar of this new pub hosts live
music (Monday), a quiz (Wednesday) and giant screens for sports events. And when there
is nothing special going on, it's just a great place for a drink! The atmosphere is more
sophisticated than in Nice's other English/Irish pubs and the staff are charming.
PUB
L'Effervescence
(

;

This cham-
pagne bar offers all the big names as well as small vintages from the Loire Valley, Spain
