GUIDED TOURS
Highly recommended are the Mary Gibbons Tours ( 086 355 1355; www.newgrangetours.com ; adult/student €35/
30), which depart from numerous Dublin hotels beginning at 9.30am Monday to Saturday, and take in the whole of the
Boyne Valley. The expert guides offer a fascinating insight into Celtic and pre-Celtic life and you'll get access to New-
grange even on days when all visiting slots are filled. Bus Éireann ( www.buseireann.ie ; adult/child €32.50/23.75;
Thu & Sat, Apr-Sep) runs Newgrange and the Boyne Valley tours, departing from Busáras in Dublin at 10am and return-
ing at approximately 5.45pm.
In summer it gets very crowded and you are not guaranteed a visit to either of the passage tombs - there are only
750 tour slots and on peak days 2000 people show up. Tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis (no ad-
vance bookings) so arrive early and be prepared for a wait.
