In-Depth Information
Government-run water taxis link islands that are a short distance apart, such as North
Bimini and South Bimini; Mangrove Cay and South Andros; and Crooked and Acklins Is-
lands.
In Abaco, the Green Turtle Ferry and Albury's Ferry serve the Loyalist Cays. See the
Abaco chapter for schedules. In Grand Bahama, Pinder's Ferry travels between McLean's
Town and Crown Haven, Abaco.
The only major inter-island ferry operator in the islands is Bahamas Ferries (
242-323-2166/8; www.bahamasferries.com ) , which runs a high-speed ferry linking Nas-
sau, Andros, Abacos, Eleuthera and the Exumas.
MAIL BOAT
Around 30 mail boats sail under government contract to most inhabited islands. They reg-
ularly depart Potter's Cay for Grand Bahama and all the Family Islands. Traditionally the
boats sail overnight, and the journeys last between five and 24 hours. Always call the
Dockmaster's Office (
242-394- 1237) and check with the Bahamas Ministry of
Tourism (
242-322-7500; www.bahamas.com ) for the latest schedules and prices.
