Ruby Swiss European Restaurant FRENCH, ITALIAN $$$
( 242-352-8507; Atlantic Way off West Sunrise Hwy; mains $25-45; lunch & din-
ner) A perennial favorite for stodgy, but delicious, Continental classics like steak Diane and
lobster Thermidor. Has one of the island's better wine lists.
Lucaya
The majority of Lucaya's eateries are in or around the Port Lucaya Marketplace or the Our
Lucaya resort complex. Choices range from faux Irish pubs to American fast food to sanit-
ized Bahamian cuisine to upscale steakhouses. Expect high prices and a lively, party-happy
atmosphere, especially on weekends when the bands crank up in Count Basie Sq.
Sabor FUSION $$
( 242-373-5588; Pelican Bay; mains $17-28; breakfast, lunch & dinner) With a hip
young Icelandic chef and a prime location on the pool deck of the chic Pelican Bay hotel,
Sabor is Lucaya's most buzzed-about new restaurant. Mojito-sipping Beautiful People
crowd the small outdoor tables, nibbling Asian- and Latin-tinged treats like ginger cala-
mari, curry mussels and guava cheesecake. A long list of burgers keeps things casual. At
night, salsa music and free-flowing cocktails lend a nightclub vibe. Breakfast hours are
really brunch.
Billy Joe's on the Beach BAHAMIAN, SEAFOOD $
( 305-735-8267; Lucaya Beach; mains $8-13; lunch & dinner Mon-Sat; ) Tuck-
ing into a bowl of Billy Joe's conch salad as you wiggle your bare feet in the sand is a
quintessential Grand Bahama experience. This venerable waterfront conch shack was here
long before the Our Lucaya complex took over the beach - when the resort came to town,
Billy Joe had to fight to keep his territory. Lucky for you, he won, and his humble wooden
beach hut is still the place to go for cold Kalik and conch cooked any way you like it. Non-
conch-eaters can chow on chicken fingers and other snacks.
China Beach ASIAN $$
( 242-373-1333; Our Lucaya Beach & Golf Resort; mains $20-28; dinner Mon-
Sat) One of Our Lucaya's more popular dinner spots, this mod Asian bistro is heavy on
the atmosphere: pagoda-style bar, Buddha statues, stone lions. The menu leans toward old-
school Chinese classics like sweet and sour chicken, though hand-rolled sushi adds a fresh
touch. Killer views over the water.
