The Close Encounter (adult/child $75/50) trip is great for nondivers and children, who
receive an educational lecture and then stand waist-deep in a sheltered lagoon, where they
meet dolphins well-accustomed to humans. Take the experience up a notch by diving in for
a quick swim ($169) alongside the frolicking pod. Or opt for the Open Ocean Experience
($199), where you can interact with the dolphins using hand signals while swimming in the
outer ocean. For the true dolphin fanatic, the Assistant Trainer Program ($359) is a hands-
on day of learning about dolphin care, feeding and habitats. A Dolphin Dive trip ($219)
involves enjoying these creatures' company in the outer ocean. All of these are hugely pop-
ular activities and require major advanced booking.
Bonefishing & Sportfishing
The Gulf Stream, off the west coast of Grand Bahama, teems with game fish. The Northw-
est Providence Channel drops to 2000ft just 400yd off the south shore, where snapper and
barracuda glide through the depths. On the north and east sides of the island, the flats of the
Little Bahama Bank are fertile grounds for spotting the elusive bonefish.
Most hotels and resorts have their own fishing guides on tour. Deep-sea fishing per per-
son costs around $70 to $130 per half-day. And bonefishing will generally run to $350/450
per half-/full day. Popular independent operators:
