Sex Doesn't Sell—Legally
Contrary to popularly held opinion, prostitution is not legal in Las Vegas
proper, as it's part of Clark County, one of three counties in Nevada where
the profession is banned. For that kind of action you'll have to drive to a
brothel in Nye County, the closest of which lie in the town of Pahrump—
“head over the hump to Pahrump,” as residents like to say. The two most
popular are The Chicken Ranch (www.chickenranchbrothel.com) and
Sheri's Ranch (www.sherisranch.net).
Besides being illegal in Las Vegas, the venues that seem to be adver-
tising sex aren't always legitimate. Places known as “clip joints” take men
in and tease them out of hundreds of dollars, only to turn them away last
minute before any services are actually rendered. Conversely, there are
massage parlors and escort services, which are known for going a bit fur-
ther than they advertise. If you're having trouble falling asleep in your
hotel room one night, it's interesting to breeze through the “Escort” sec-
tion of the Yellow Pages. There are practically enough entries for classifi-
cation as a novella. If you call them up and engage in acts of prostitution
you are taking a risk. If you're caught, you will be prosecuted.
refined Cheetahs, multiplied by 10, with scads of beautiful, nearly nude women
everywhere, and men, dripping in pheromones, enjoying the view.
Known for having some of the hottest entertainers in Vegas, Rhino is part of
a chain, which, in Vegas, is rarely a bad thing. With its dark paneling, leather seat-
ing, and curtained VIP cabanas, this club was clearly designed by men for men,
and then doused with estrogen for their viewing pleasure. Be sure and take out
money before you come here—the onsite ATM charges an exorbitant $5 fee to
make a withdrawal.
STRIP CLUBS FOR WOMEN
As one of only two options in town to see male strippers (where is the equality?),
Olympic Garden (1531 Las Vegas Blvd. S.; % 702/385 - 9361; www.ogvegas.com;
cover $ 20; Sun and Wed-Thurs 9pm-2am, Fri-Sat 8pm-4am) is packed with squeal-
ing, giggling, flushed women. They surround the single stage where, occasionally,
a man will thrust and gyrate to music. But most of the entertainment takes place
on the floor, where nearly nude men (they're wearing about the equivalent of a sock
with a strap) wander through the club, trying to talk the women into buying a $20
lap dance.
Watch as the women's faces change from innocently shy when the dancing
begins to coy to flummoxed as a ridiculously muscular and well-endowed man
practically dry humps them. If you come here expecting to just watch the dancers,
you better have strong resolve and the ability to repeatedly say “no thank you.”
The men are here to make a living, and they know how to talk you out of $20.
And if you're not buying, your friends will probably be doing it for you. It's some
