Question Your Cabbie
If there's a particular strip club that you want to visit, don't let your cab driver
talk you out of it. Many of the clubs give cab drivers kickbacks for delivering cus-
tomers. So be leery of drivers who suggest one club over another. They may be
making $20 just for delivering you there.
Sapphire 5 (3025 Industrial Rd.; % 702/796 - 6000; www.sapphirelasvegas.com;
cover $ 30; 24 hr.) was described by Jay Leno as the place “where Costco meets
Hooters.” Like the, ahem, enhancements of many dancers, the club is huge—the
showroom, alone, is 10,000 square feet, and posh. It's one of the new breed of high-
end gentleman's clubs, and, like Club Paradise, is similar to an “ultra lounge,” where
the entertainment just happens to be topless. And rubbing on your lap. Sapphire
Women are everywhere, and so are patrons, but tables are spread out, giving more
privacy, and there's an air of sophistication. You can choose to sit at one of three bars,
in VIP skyboxes, or even at a table located below the see-through stage. The stage is
multiple levels, and there's no such thing as a bad view.
When you walk into Scores 55 (3355 S. Procyon St.; % 702/367 - 4000;
www.scoreslasvegas.com; cover $ 20; nightly 5pm-8am), every man on staff (and
there are quite a few) immediately reaches out and shakes your hand, which, per-
sonally, I find slightly creepy. The hand-shaking seems to be one way of empha-
sizing the “gentleman” in “gentleman's club,” when, really, who are we kidding?
It's a strip club. And Scores is a particularly well-known strip club, considering the
New York version of the club has been made famous by shock jock Howard Stern,
and the Vegas one is quickly becoming legendary in its own right. In less than a
year since opening it's been voted best strip club by the Las Vegas Review-Journal
and the Las Vegas Weekly.
The club is a classy executive hangout steeped in topless entertainment. The
central stage has no stripper pole, and without it the dancers seem out of sorts,
leaning against walls and crawling on the floor without a central spot to return to.
But they're attractive women and the men aren't exactly here for the dance moves.
There are also multiple rooms upstairs for private dances, bottle service, and even
a game of twister.
One of the defining features of Scores is their aerialists (who are clothed,
though minimally); beginning at 11pm, athletic dancers come out and swing,
hang, dangle from the ceiling, and perform to different songs (such as flipping
around a metallic moon suspended far above the stage to Van Morrison's
“Moondance”). Shows are every half-hour. Also, stop in for their unbeatable
happy hour. From 5pm to 6pm daily free cocktails and a buffet are available to
any guest with a business card.
Spearmint Rhino 555 (3440 S. Highland Dr.; % 702/796 - 3600; www.
spearmintrhino.com; cover $ 20; 24 hr.) is the big daddy of strip clubs. There's sim-
ply no comparison. While all of the clubs have dancers roaming around, Rhino is
teeming with them—all 18,000 square feet of the club stay crowded. It's like a
